How to calculate engagement rate

Engagement rate is the actions on your posts divided by an audience size, times 100. The number you divide by decides what you learn: impressions judge a post, followers judge an account.

By impressions, for one post

(replies + reposts + quotes + likes + bookmarks + link clicks) ÷ impressions × 100

Best for your own posts side by side. X shows the impressions in the analytics of each post.

By followers, for an account

(engagements ÷ posts) ÷ followers × 100

Use it to compare accounts, or one account over time. Take the totals of a period, for example the last 28 days.

Weighted by X's ranking

replies × 5.0 + quotes × 5.0 + reposts × 1.0 + likes × 0.66

X ranks a post by the actions it expects from readers, and its weights are public. The calculator multiplies each count by its weight and shows the share of each action. Bookmarks and link clicks stay out, because we cite no weight for them.

Questions

How do you calculate engagement rate on X?

Pick the base first. Post rate: add replies, reposts, quotes, likes, bookmarks, and link clicks, then divide by impressions and multiply by 100. 300 actions on 10,000 impressions is 3%. Account rate: divide the engagements of an average post by your followers and multiply by 100. 30 a post with 2,000 followers is 1.5%.

Which actions count as engagements?

X analytics counts more than the numbers under a post: clicks on the post, on your name and photo, on media, and on hashtags all go in. That is why its rate often comes out higher than a rate from replies, reposts, and likes. The set you count matters less than counting the same set each time, so your rates compare.

Should I divide by impressions or by followers?

Divide by impressions to judge a post. Impressions count who saw it: the feed and search show posts to people who do not follow you, and many of your followers never see a given post. Divide by followers to put an account next to others. The follower count is public, so you can work out that rate for any account, not only your own.

Why do replies matter more than likes on X?

X's ranking code is public, and it gives each action a weight. A reply is 5.0, a quote 5.0, a repost 1.0, and a like 0.66, so one reply counts as much as about 7.6 likes. Two posts with the same engagement rate can rank very differently: the one with more replies gets shown to more people. The weighted view of the calculator shows that split for your post.

What is a good engagement rate on X?

Your own average is the bar to beat. The rate moves with the niche, the account size, and the kind of post, so a figure from other accounts says little about yours. Fill in Account with a period from X analytics, impressions included. Then each post you check in One post shows how it compares with that average.

Are my numbers saved?

The calculator runs in your browser, and Reachr never receives the numbers. Your account numbers stay in this browser, so the next post you check compares with them. Clear the Account form to remove them.

More replies, from the right people.

Reachr finds the posts on X that describe the problem your product solves, and drafts the reply. It scores your own drafts against the same X weights before you schedule them, and you decide what goes out.
